Worlds Greatest Escape Artist Michael Griffin - Escapes Fiery Car Crash Dangerous TV Magic
Escape Artist Michael Griffin Narrowly Escapes Fiery Car Crash Dangerous TV Magic Trick
Day 11 of the 30-day escape challenge
I'm going to tell you everything.....
The World Magic Award for Best Escape Artist was up for grabs and somehow I won it. This made me the only 2-time winner of the TV awards for Best Escape Artist ever, the first being the earlier version known as International Magic Awards.
I was thrilled, hey Bob Saget was the host and I was flown out to LA where we had to come up with something cool, how is it cool when it involves fire and explosions? kinda ironic but fun!
I had my own opinion on how this would go down. The producer had his opinion and we cussed and discussed for an hour or so and finally went with his idea of the magic appearance after my escape. To be fair I wanted to jump out of the way just as the car hit, hey I grew up learning to drive in the mountains of Lake Arrowhead, CA so how bad could a nearly getting run over blown-up thing be? LOL.
We got to the set and I think it was the same Los Angeles river that they filmed Grease in and funny enough if I didn't make my escape well, I would probably be the new Grease spot on the cement.
The tech guys walked me thru what I was supposed to do and how to move to not get killed, not sure why they fed me so well while setting up the event, hmmm fattening up the cow before slaughter? mooooooving right along (yes, bovine pun, no bull lol) I filmed the intro and started to wonder what the heck am I doing, I could've been a doctor, geesh, yes ok, I love my career, I love my career I keep repeating to myself.
So, in a minute I find myself on the ground on my knees with chains everywhere and staring down at that 3000-pound bomb of a car, it, in turn, seemed to be looking me down, more like a staredown and in a few seconds it was coming at me, hot, flaming, full of wrath and I'm chained in its path.
Time sped by, I escaped, revealed magically on TV that night I won the World Magic Awards for Best Escape Artist.
